Submission: | The Conservative Party will adopt an assertive foreign policy toward authoritarian dictatorships including the Chinese Communist Party, focused on upholding Canada’s values respecting human rights and democratic principles. We will expand trade and military alliances with Asia and strengthen our relationships with like-minded democracies to counteract Chinese government aggression. CPC to implement the following to combat CCP’s adversarial behaviour: a) Cease military cooperation with PLA and CCP participation at sensitive research facilities.
b) Ban ownership in Canadian companies of CCP aligned entities or sale/purchase of sensitive technologies.
c) Advocate China’s removal from WTO until legal reforms guarantee fair trade. |
Rationale: | Rationale: The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has shifted towards a more aggressive and hegemonic approach through the ‘Belt and Road’ initiative, gaining access to the natural resources of developing countries while encumbering their economies with debt. The CCP’s ongoing human rights abuses of its citizens and minorities, along with continual expansionistic threats in the South Pacific has destabilized the area. They are engaged in foreign interference, state and corporate espionage and detained Canadian citizens, to exert pressure. Canada can no longer view the CCP as merely a strong economic competitor but must treat them as an adversarial state and organization. |
