The Conservative Party supports development of energy transmission infrastructure and a Hudson Bay port, for the export of LNG, hydrogen, and other bulk product. The project would be a monumental undertaking of National importance. Canada should actively engage with provinces, private sector and Indigenous interests to earnestly explore this opportunity.

The Conservative Party of Canada recognizes the global need to transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources. Realistically, this goal will probably take decades to achieve. In the interim, transitioning from coal to natural gas or hydrogen would have a significant positive environmental impact. Carbon dioxide emissions from natural gas power plants are half that of coal-fired plants. Canada lacks the means to bring our energy products to European markets. There would be formidable technical and other challenges to overcome, but developing the Port of Churchill or a new Hudson Bay port could be an option.

Justification:

Le Parti conservateur du Canada reconnaît la nécessité mondiale de passer des combustibles fossiles aux sources d'énergie renouvelables. De manière réaliste, il faudra probablement des décennies pour atteindre cet objectif. Dans l'intervalle, le passage du charbon au gaz naturel ou à l'hydrogène aurait un impact positif important sur l'environnement. Les émissions de dioxyde de carbone des centrales électriques au gaz naturel sont deux fois moins importantes que celles des centrales au charbon. Le Canada n'a pas les moyens d'acheminer ses produits énergétiques vers les marchés européens. Il y aurait de formidables défis techniques et autres à relever, mais le développement du port de Churchill ou d'un nouveau port de la baie d'Hudson pourrait être une option.
