The Chignecto Isthmus, installed in the late 1600’s is the part of the TCH and provides the only road access and rail access between NB and NS. The Conservative Party of Canada supports its’ Atlantic  provincial partners in protecting the Isthmus Trade Corridor from extreme weather and rising sea levels.

Limited access to the Chignecto Isthmus connecting NB to NS would have a devastating effect on the Atlantic Provinces and the rest of Canada. The Port of Halifax is Canada’s Atlantic Gateway to 150 countries. Stanfield International Airport processes 41,000 tonnes of cargo annually. CN Rail and the TCH carry $35B annually in goods and services. Major power transmission lines are within the Isthmus. Port of Halifax outgoing port authority chair Tom Hayes was quoted as saying the biggest threat to the port is the urgent need to safeguard the Chignecto Isthmus.

L'isthme de Chignecto, installé à la fin des années 1600 fait partie du TCH et constitue le seul acces routier d'accès et ferroviaire entre le NB et NS. Le Parti conservateur du Canada soutient ses partenaires provinciaux de l'Antantique dans la prtoection du corridor commercial de l'isthme contre les conditions météorologiques extrêmes et l'élévation du niveau de la mer.

Rationale:

Un accès limité à l'isthme de Chignecto, qui relie le NB la NS, aurait un effet dévastateur sur les provinces atlantiques et le reste du Canada. Le port de Halifax est la porte d'entrée du Canada atlantique vers 150 pays. L'aéroport international Stanfield traite 41 000 tonnes de fret par an. Le CN Rail et la route transcanadienne transportent chaque année 35 milliards de dollars de biens et de services. Les principales lignes de transport d'électricité se trouvent dans l'isthme. Le president sortant de l'autorite portuaire de Halifax, Tom Hayes, aurait declare que la plus grande menance pour le port est la necessite urgente de sauvegarder l'sthme de Chignecto.
