Submission: | The Conservative Party believes that assistance in preparing/adapting should be offered to poor communities of the world which are particularly vulnerable to extreme weather/climate emergencies. Part of this assistance must be financial, helping the poorest to raise their standard of living. |
Rationale: | It is a founding CPC principle that “Canada should accept its obligations among the nations of the world”. Helping people to rise out of poverty provides the resources to adapt to climate difficulties. For example, cutting bush and trees around a desert is the act of people desperate to deal with immediate needs; educating the people in alternative agricultural solutions and providing essentials to implement those solutions can help dramatically. Many seaside communities need to prepare and adapt for extreme weather which happens annually. In this important way, Canada can contribute to world readiness for problems arising from climate. |
