We believe that hunting is an important part of Canada’s culture and heritage, a legitimate form of recreation, and a highly ethical means of sourcing food. In addition, hunters contribute to the understanding, conservation, and scientific management of wildlife. We recognize that hunting has existed for all of human history.

This is not a proposed government policy, but rather a statement of principle intended to underlie the development of other policies.

Many people misunderstand hunting as shooting animals for the fun of killing rather than for sustenance. Hunting game is a highly ethical means of obtaining food.

Game is the ultimate organic and free-range meat, and unlike farmed animals, game is not penned and with the ability to escape capture. Hunters are also conservationists, striving to maintain the long-term health of wildlife populations. Hunting is an important family and community bonding activity an inherent right of First Nations.
